Our family sweet shop is the green shophouse on Satidsuk Road near the Tha Mai savings bank. Coconut batter goes onto hot iron moulds and is rolled into soft wafers, sweet or salty, and the same batter makes our crisp rolls.
Our rolled wafers began with Grandma Kua's old recipe, which passed to her child, Auntie Bai, who gave the shop its name; today the grandchildren keep it going. Altogether the family has sold sweets in Tha Mai for close to 90 years.
At first we made only the soft, sweet kind. The salty version with spices came later. The batter is fresh coconut milk and palm sugar, cooked on old iron moulds, so it stays soft, fragrant and gently sweet all day.
The same batter gives our crisp rolls, and the soft-wrapped-crisp: a soft wafer rolled around a crisp one.

We are on Satidsuk Road in Tha Mai town, near the Government Savings Bank branch: a green-painted shophouse with a white name sign and rows of green baskets out front.
There is no dedicated parking; leave the car at the roadside and walk a short way. Spaces can be hard to find at busy times.
Open every day from morning to early evening; any day off is posted in advance on our Facebook page.

What is the difference between soft and crisp thong muan? Same coconut batter. The soft kind is cooked just through, so it is chewy and best eaten the same day; the crisp kind is cooked until dry and keeps longer.
